Neck Guards in the NHL
After the terrible incident with Richard Zednik of the Florida Panthers the NHL is discussing making neck guards a mandatory part of equipment seeing as this is the second almost fatal incident in 17 years. I believe it is a good idea but that it should be up to the players on weather or not they want to wear one. What are your thoughts on this?

I think that no matter what happens to the players they still should be able to decide whether or not they want to wear the neck guards. But, then again if something does happen it's no ones fault but their own because of their choice not to where them. I understand why they want to make it mandatory but most of the player's don't want to wear them! They're annoying, distracting, and uncomfortable!!
I agree with Val on that one..
The fact that it is the second time in 19 years, it should not be mandatory, players choice. They know there is a risk of it happening, so they can decide.
I don't really know on this one. I am half and half here. It is a huge risk that everyone in hockey has to take. Neck guards aren't as horrible as everyone thinks. They provide safety for the player's which is always good. But then again it's like letting the player's choose to wear some of the safety equipment that they are mandated to wear I don't really know that they should be able to put their safety in danger. But then again it is their choice if they want to wear one or not. I think that they should wear them. But I don't know that it should be mandatory.
I think it schouldnt be mandatory. The player schould have the choice weather or not they want it. MAybe it will effect how players play.
